Microsoft have confirmed that they’re still working on backward compatibility for the Xbox one, this was mentioned by Frank Savage at Microsoft’s build conference last week during a Q&A session. When asked about supporting games from previous generation to the Xbox one he said.

“There are [plans for an emulator], but we’re not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately. It turns out to be hard to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the X86 stuff. So there’s nothing to announce, but I would love to see it myself”

The emulator idea has previously been used by Microsoft in the past as they used the same method to bring some original Xbox title to the 360, which lasted until 2007 then re-releasing the same titles digitally via Xbox Live up to 2010.
